Canadian/Windsor BJJ Open 2012 Results

The Jean Jacques Machado Canadian/Windsor Open was held last Sunday. Ibrahim, Jibril and Sean represented the academy at the event. Unfortunately there were no kids in Jibril’s division, so he will have to wait for another opportunity to prove himself on the competition mat.

I’m happy to report that both Ibrahim and Sean earned 1st place. Ibrahim fought 4 matches and submitted his opponent by arm bar in the finals. Congratulations to both of them.

Michigan Open NO-GI results

Michigan Open NO-GI tournament was last Sunday 4/22. A few students registered to fight but couldn’t for personal reasons. But Ibrahim Bansfield, one of the kid students, fought. He placed 3rd in his division. Congratulations Ibrahim and continue to improve.

Results from 2012 Arnold Grappling Event

2012 Arnold Expo was held March 3-4. It was well-attended as it is every year. The grappling event had GI on Saturday and NO-GI on Sunday. The ADCC head referee visited the event and oversaw the ADCC rules NO-GI Expert divisions. Winners of these divisions got free entry into the ADCC qualifier tournament. Sean and Ahmed represented the academy.

Sean won Gold in the Adult Black belt Super heavy division. Ahmed got silver in the Master Brown belt Ultra heavy division and absolute.

Sean wins Silver in the ADCC rules Expert NO-GI Super heavy division. He faced UFC fighter and Pedro Sauer Black belt Eric Shafer in both the finals of GI and NO-GI. Long time student and friend Kent Hubbell entered the Adult Super heavy NO-GI division on short notice and got Silver. This was Kent’s first time grappling in 3 years. “You have to get back on the mat my friend.”
